Jesus said to the disciples, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." --Matthew 28:19-20

The Baptismal Covenant

At Holy Family, people profess vows through a question and answer format when being baptized and committing to following Jesus. The first three questions ask us to summarize the story we believe about God and his actions in the world. While the next five questions are the actions we desire to live out by God's help. These promises guide us in our growth as disciples/followers of Jesus. If you have any questions, are interested in baptism, or would like to discuss any of this, please contact our priest John.

  • DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER?

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD?

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT?

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

  • WILL YOU CONTINUE IN THE APOSTLES' TEACHING AND FELLOWSHIP, IN THE BREAKING OF BREAD, AND IN THE PRAYERS?

    I will, with God's help.

  • WILL YOU PERSEVERE IN RESISTING EVIL, AND, WHENEVER YOU FALL INTO SIN, REPENT AND RETURN TO THE LORD?

    I will, with God's help.

  • WILL YOU PROCLAIM BY WORD AND EXAMPLE THE GOOD NEWS OF GOD IN CHRIST?

    I will, with God's help.

  • WILL YOU SEEK AND SERVE CHRIST IN ALL PERSONS, LOVING YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF?

    I will, with God's help.

  • WILL YOU STRIVE FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE AMONG ALL PEOPLE, AND RESPECT THE DIGNITY OF EVERY HUMAN BEING?

    I will, with God's help.

Apprentice

Learning to be a follower of Jesus is a life-long journey. We grow as followers of Jesus  through relationships which allow others to point us towards God. We learn by observing other Christians and trying out faithful actions with encouragement from them. At Holy Family, we are intentional in modeling the Christian life to each other so that we can support one another in our everyday lives as Jesus followers.
